We were notified this morning that the main event of Andrew Whitney vs. Diego Silva has been scrapped due to both fighters missing weight, and unable to come to an agreement on a catchweight. Silva weighed-in at 137.8, while Whitney weighed-in at a head-scratching 144 pounds for their 135 pound title eliminator contest. It's not all bad news though, as the Dinis Paiva vs. Joshua Smith bout has now been bumped up to the main event, and will be a 5 round title fight!
These two bouts were initially slatted to be title eliminator bouts that would have the two winners meeting for the CES bantamweight world title at a future event. Obviously with Silva and Whitney missing weight, and Whitney missing by an astonishing 9 pounds, this forced CES brass to make some changes to the card. These changes place Rhode Island's Paiva in a position to fight for the CES bantamweight title for the 2nd time in his career, as he lost a title fight to current UFC fighter, Andre Elwell, back in 2018 at CES 50.
Best of skill to all fighters on the card that will be aired on UFC FightPass tonight starting at 8:00 PM EST, and be sure to tune in to watch "Sweetbread" go after that CES bantamweight strap!
