It was just about 24 hrs ago when Glory Watson's opponent for Saturday night's NEF 44: Back in Black event pulled out due to illness. It seemed very unlikely that Matt Peterson and Nick DiSalvo would find a late notice replacement to compete against Watson in a very thin women's division here in the northeast, but they've been able to pull it off. Although the bout won't be a MMA bout, Glory Watson will now be taking on Contender Series alum and Massachusetts native, Hilarie Rose, in a professional kickboxing bout.
We'd love to see this fight as a MMA contest, but I have a feeling that with Watson coming off a loss in her professional MMA debut in Florida a few months ago, that she wasn't willing to risk starting her career 0-2, as Rose is a high-level competitor that is a much bigger step up in competition than Bryggman, who she was initially scheduled to fight.
Kudos to Rose for stepping up on 5 days notice, as well as NEF for finding a worthy opponent for one of the promotion's biggest stars.
Make sure to tune into NewEnglandMMA.org on Saturday night, as we'll be at the Hampshire Dome, covering the event live. You can check out the full card for NEF 44: Back in Black HERE.
